A Dramatic Shift In The Mindset Over The Next Five Years
Covid-19 has stripped us of our daily normal life and brought us all down to the same understanding, which is that health is wealth. Honestly, at the moment, it is highly unlikely that anybody would trade their and their family’s health and fitness, even for all the riches of this world.
In this situation, we all must start taking our mental and physical well being seriously, now that we have seen that it is the only way to ensure that the human race, as a whole, continues to survive. The question has to be asked~ does this mean that the world is about to witness a pan-global change in the very way we have been viewing our health all these years?
Probably, yes. This change is definitely for the best because valuing and celebrating life and health is what we should have been doing already, in the first place. The realization has set in late, but we are glad that it has. Let us take a walk around how people have begun reviewing their stances on health and fitness.
Good health comes before everything
If there’s one thing we know for certain now, nothing comes before the well being of you and your loved ones. But what if Covid-19 turns us into a generation (and possibly more than a generation) of health freaks?
Now that an increasingly large number of people have been driven to a point where they check up on themselves and their families every day and tread extra cautious to make sure that the virus hasn’t gotten to them yet, people are monitoring the progress they make and the state they are in, health-wise, much more frequently than they have been known to do all these years. Even the World Health Organization (WHO) is attempting to launch campaigns to promote positivity and fitness, to help people deal with isolation while maintaining their physical and mental well being.
Yes, this generation will likely become and raise a bunch of highly health-sensitive individuals~ but even an obsessive need to protect oneself from ailments can’t be too dangerous in the current times, as long as it doesn’t create pathological hypochondriacs. Besides, the very fact that people are still finding it in themselves to disregard Covid-19 norms and social distancing regulations proves that a little more constant health vigilance will do us good, for the time being.
The importance of stable mental health
Dealing with the isolation that social distancing and lock-downs have resulted in, is proving to be quite a feat at the moment. People are having emotional breakdowns because of the lack of enjoyable company and intimacy, and for once, even adults with zero trust in the concept of mental health are coming to terms with the fact that it is a thing, that depression isn’t seeking attention, that anxiety isn’t just overreacting, and that yes, it is very possible to be suicidal even if one rich, successful, and smart.
We sincerely hope that this awareness lingers on, even beyond the Covid-19 period, and trickles along to every individual in the society. The only downside of this sudden spurt of mental health awareness will be if it turns out that people are only partaking in it for social media clout, and if it fizzles out with time.
Taking physical well being seriously
Much like mental health, people are also taking their physical fitness more seriously than ever before. Everyone is at least trying their best to maintain Covid-19 regulations, like practising social distancing, mandatorily wearing masks every time one goes out, and refraining from touching public surfaces or even greeting people the way we used to.
Social distancing entails that visits to the gym or nice jogs around the park have also become luxurious activities at this point. So more and more people are resorting to freehand exercising at home, while many others are just working out, full-blown, with whatever resources are available. Overall, people are trying to look for ways to circumvent the inconvenience of not being able to drop in at the local gym, and the increasing number of people who are investing their time and energy into taking care of their physical well being, despite the inconvenience, indicates that people are putting in more thought behind taking care of themselves.
Adopting healthy practices at home
Everything, from eating right and taking dermatological care, to crunches, push-ups, and squats, it is obvious that people are adopting healthier ways of living. Whether it is because of how concerned we all are about our health and well-being, or it is because of the comparatively more free time people have on their hands’ thanks to work-from-home regulations, it is an undeniable fact this is evidence indicating that people are changing their mindsets about healthy living.
Relationship between fitness and productivity
Now that we have increased the amount of emphasis we put on health and fitness, it would be great if we also came to the understanding that “performance” is not more important than well being. Yes, a lot of people still don’t understand that stressing themselves overwork would not help because too much stress is not going to increase productivity at all.
But now that working from home is a necessity, people might just have time to reflect on the fact that it’s just sad that we haven’t been prioritizing ourselves and our physical and mental well-being overwork efficiency and productivity. Hopefully, the imminent change in the collective mindset will also make people more attentive to this.
It’s a good thing that the prospects suggest that people are making an effort to change the way they have been perceiving fitness and mental health. We can count on the fact that a large number of people are slowly turning their attention to taking care of themselves, to make a change for the better. Being aware of how important it is to pay attention to oneself and one’s loved ones is something that the world is collectively moving towards~ this realization is one of how this Covid-19 period has proven to be a blessing in disguise.
Thank you.
